Senior Mining Engineer

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop mining plans based on all available geological information to support short and/or long range planning and production goals;
  • Direct engineering for: mine ventilation, ore conveyance, rock mechanics, budgetary recommendations and knowledge of mine safety rules and regulations;
  • Monitor mining methods and equipment to improve performance; ensure maximum productivity and extraction rates by optimizing mining methods and procedures;
  • Serve as liaison with Federal, State and Local regulators. Completing, or overseeing completion of all required reports, certifications and recertifications;
  • Work closely with Operations to ensure that designs are implemented in the field;
  • Promote and coordinate continuous process improvement initiatives;
  • Establish and maintain effective work and communication relationships within departments, ensuring that efficient day to day operational decisions can be achieved;
  • Provide guidance and counsel to site management on applicable programs and practices;
  • Remain current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance; and
  • Complete special projects as assigned.  

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • B.S in Mine Engineering or equivalent area of study;
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in mine engineering including mine projects and mine planning;
  • Thorough knowledge of mine engineering;
  • Background in reserves calculation and reporting;
  • Proficient in Mine Planning Software and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong interpersonal skills; excellent organizational skills.

Senior Electrical Engineer

Lead all aspects of electrical engineering at the Plants including plant power and control systems. Responsible for plant project engineering and management:

  • Responsible for ensuring the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the plant’s electrical systems and electrical maintenance programs;
  • Maintains electrical data, documentation, and drawings;
  • Implements electrical engineering solutions to solve problems and contribute to the company’s Operational Excellence;
  • Manages all aspects of long-term plant power supply needs and strategies;
  • Establishes electrical standards and implement the management systems to maintain those standards;
  • Designs for electrical and control components of engineering projects;
  • Takes the lead in the diagnosis and trouble-shooting of electrical systems;
  • Monitors plant power consumption and related charges, and implement techniques and procedures to minimize energy costs; and
  • Manages all aspects of site PLC/HMI systems to control all processes and provide data required for management of the Plants.

 Project Engineering:

  • Supports Engineering Manager in preparing annual capital budgets;
  • Prepares and submits capital appropriation requests, including payback and IRR calculations;
  • Prepares scopes of work and engineering specifications as part of the RFQ process;
  • Develops and manages capital project engineering and construction contracts;
  • Manages construction contractors and verification/quality control of work performed;
  • Implements construction/installation strategies that coordinate with the Plant’s production plans;
  • Actively participates in commissioning of engineering projects; and
  • Manages multiple capital projects ensuring that critical path and budget goals are met.

Maintenance and Reliability:

  • Identifies opportunities to improve Plant power and control system reliability;
  • Assists maintenance with the troubleshooting of Plant production equipment;
  • Ensures the appropriate preventive maintenance programs are in place for electrical installations;
  • Identifies and coordinates the required electrical training needs to support reliability;
  • Works with the Maintenance Department to implement process improvements;
  • Works closely with the Maintenance Department to support Reliable Asset Management objectives; and
  • Works with Production Department to set standards for Electrical and Control equipment purchases.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited school is required;
  • Registered Professional Engineering License is a plus;
  • At least 5 to 15 years electrical engineering experience; and
  • Preference given to those with knowledge and experience working with and trouble-shooting of:
    • Allen Bradley based PLC control systems for process and equipment control as well as associated HMI graphics;
    • Large DC and AC motor drives control systems which utilize power electronics for variable speed control;
    • Electrical distribution systems ranging from 480V to 138 kV, including substations and MCC’s;
    • Fiber optic and Ethernet based communications systems;
    • Power factor correction systems; and
    • Electrical systems in a heavy industrial environment. 

Computer Skills:       

  • Complete proficiency with Microsoft Office programs is required;
  • AutoCAD, MS Project, CMMS systems, highly desirable;
  • Other EE related software experience a plus; and
  • Allen Bradley PLC programs (PLC5, ControlLogix, MicroLogix, and DeviceNet) to troubleshoot system challenges.

Automation & Controls Engineer

Oversees installation and programming of PLC systems and networking. Oversees maintenance and installation of analog and digital equipment. Assists in the design of HMI systems. In addition, maintains tests and troubleshooting of industrial controls and automation equipment, machinery, and associated electrical and electronic controls.

Responsibilities: 

  • Install and commission Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) systems;
  • Capable of writing and understanding programs with advanced PLC instructions such as PID, function blocks, advanced math, etc.;
  • Perform screen development and modifications for HMI software (RSView, RSStudio, etc.);
  • Capable of programming PLCs;
  • Familiar with variable frequency drives (VFD) and servodrives;
  • Organize and maintain PLC records and ensure they are backed up and up to date;
  • Change program documentation to reflect any changes that need to be made;
  • Effectively communicate with all departments on program modifications and changes;
  • Train E&I staff on operation of new equipment and installations;
  • Inspect and test equipment, controls and safety devices for operation and safety; and
  • Observe all safety rules, regulations and precautions.

Requirements:

  • In depth knowledge of data base structures, DDE and HMI systems;
  • Thorough knowledge of PLC programming;
  • Significant knowledge of P&ID control schemes;
  • Knowledgeable of the appropriate electrical code; and
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Capital projects:  Develop, budget, coordinate resources, plan execution and ensure all capital projects are completed according to schedule and costs, and deliver benefits as anticipated;
  • Plant Expansions and Upgrades: Ensure that all plant upgrades and installation of equipment are completed according to schedule and within budgetary guidelines;
  • Budgetary Management: Work with the Engineering and Operations teams to manage the following budgetary goals;
  • Leadership:  Ensure that employees understand the organization’s goals and are fully engaged in achieving them;
  • Financial Planning:  Develop short and long term operating plans including annual budgets;
  • Profitability Management:  Manage productivity and costs to meet the financial plans;
  • Continuous Improvement:  Lead process and quality improvement efforts to improve profitability and customer satisfaction – for both existing operations as well as new product initiatives; and
  • Performance goals: Assist employees in developing performance goals and in establishing plans to meet and exceed those objectives. 


Qualification requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. MBA desired;
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment in culture with focus on safety, reliability and process improvement; 
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience and 10+ years of overall experience in engineering management;
  • Ability to blend coaching, modeling, managing and recruiting to effectively drive improved results, develop followers and strengthen the operations team;
  • Basic understanding of PLC and HMI systems;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent writing, analytical and financial skills;
  • Good presentation skills using PowerPoint to illustrate capital projects, cost, timing, alternatives and contingencies; and
  • Able to work effectively across all levels of an organization from senior management to hourly workforce.
