Summary:

The Senior Technical Manager will be a key part of the organization by providing technical leadership to meet the process engineering and technical needs in Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning (SX/EW). The incumbent will manage all technical and quality issues in connection with the construction, start up and operation of a solvent extraction electrowinning plant.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and direct process improvements. 
  • Lead technical support. 
  • Supervise engineers and technicians.
  • Manage all technical and quality issues in connection with the construction, start up and operation of solvent extraction electrowinning plant.    
  • Direct the SX/EW Engineering Department. 
  • Propose and manage environmental technology projects related to SX/EW operations. 
  • Coordinate with corporate EH&S department to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Direct the planning, scheduling, technical project management and execution of activities for major technical projects at the SX/EW facilities including providing cost-effective process recommendations and completion of projects on budget and on time for start up and operations. 
  • Evaluate performance of SX/EW processes:  analyze operating data, develop mass and energy balances, recommend new or improved practices, processes, equipment, etc., to improve metallurgical and economical performance.  
  • Coordinate and direct activities of outside engineering or consulting companies and other contractors in the execution of process engineering/ technical projects or studies. 
  • Supervise, develop and evaluate performance of technicians and engineers.

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX/EW) technology
  • Minimum BS degree in Metallurgy/Hydrometallurgy, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
  • Computer competency in working with and developing system solutions. 
  • Six Sigma and Lean Enterprise experience

Summary:

The Senior Project Manager will enjoy high visibility and will allow a professional to exercise leadership while also being a key contributor to the engineering function.  

The incumbent will manage an engineering team, but will also provide general engineering support that may include managing projects, capital review, design, equipment diagnostics, process trouble shooting, and project management responsibility.  The Project Manager must lead with a high energy level and make things happen while aiming to adhere to crucial safety measures & increase plant productivity and efficiency.   

This senior project role provides a single engineering liaison for contact among various departments and the corporate office, engineering firms and construction firms to drive and track new major projects including all documentation and follow-up.  The incumbent will monitor spending, on-time deliveries and the collection of details for all projects at the manufacturing location.  The incumbent will  ensure good engineering principles and practices are applied so that projects are designed, constructed, and maintained in a safe, cost effective and timely manner. 

Other key responsibilities:

  • Work place and project safety. 
  • Develop scope of services for contractors, consultants, and local work force for all assigned projects.
  • Assembles project team, identifies needed resources, assigns responsibilities and develops timeframes to facilitate successful completion of project activities and deliverables.
  • Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope.
  • Manages project budget.
  • Minimizes our exposure and risk on projects.
  • Effectively applies our methodology and enforces project standards.
  • Review, track and forecast project time and cost estimates monthly.
  • Ensure project requirements are achieved in a timely fashion and within budget guidelines.
  • Prepare and conduct project meetings as needed.
  • Prepare requisitions for equipment and services as required.
  • Perform engineering calculations as required.
  • Recommend new processes where needed for quality improvement, cost reduction, and on-time delivery.
  • Evaluate project performance.
  • Prepare Authorization for Expense (AFE) documentation utilizing supplier information, cost standards, and technical information available to acquire funding for the project. 

Experience and Requirements:

  • BS Degree – Engineering. 
  • 10 years project management experience in an industrial environment.
  • Examples of projects in excess of $30MM.
  • Effective communications & leadership skills. 
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Project financial acumen and the ability to read and interpret prints and specifications.
